Petition

We didn't get enough signatures in 2010. But 2010 was just our first attempt, giving us a feel for the initiative process. We'll be back again in our effort to solve the problem of making government fiscally responsible.

How to view the petition on your computer.  To zoom, enter control-minus and control-plus. To see both pages at once, right click in the window, and under Page Display Preferences choose Page Layout option Two-up Continuous.

How to print the petition.  Send the petition file by email, or take the petition file by flash drive, to your local copy store, and ask them to print it double-sided on 11 x 17 paper, head-to-toe. Be sure to get it printed in head-to-toe orientation. The reason for head-to-toe orientation is for convenience in reading the petition because you merely need to lift the bottom of page 1, and rotate it up, in order to read page 2. Printing one petition will cost about 50 cents.

How to handle the petition for personal use.   Fold the petition widthwise to a size of 8.5 x 11 (H x W). Then rotate it forward to see the bottom half, and open the fold to see page 2.

How to handle the petition to get signatures.  If you use a clipboard of standard size, after folding the petition widthwise to a size of 8.5 x 11 (H x W), you can use the clipboard sideways.

Ideally, you'll want to display the petition unfolded, and to do this, get a piece of thick, rigid cardboard, and cut it to a size of about 14 x 20 to accommodate the 11 x 17 petition. Some of the carryout boxes at Costco are ideal, having a thick, rigid bottom of size 15.5 x 23.5. This is what I use. Center the petition on the cardboard, and tape it along the upper edge with packing tape. You can tape a second petition on top of the first, etc. With a petition printed head-to-toe, you merely need to lift the bottom of page 1, and rotate it up, in order to read page 2.

In addition, I would get a pen having a removable cap, and use packing tape to tape the cap tightly to the right-hand edge of the cardboard, toward the top. I suggest buying a handful of cheap pens in case one gets lost.

How to collect signatures at a gathering.  If you're going to attend a conservative gathering, I suggest taking enough petitions to accommodate everyone — 20 signatures per petition — because you may get close to 100% of the people's signatures. If the gathering is fairly large, take multiple cardboard backings, each with multiple petitions.

Note that I passed around two folded petitions without backing at a conservative meeting having about 50 people, and I never saw the petitions again. As a result of this experience, I would be sure to tape the petitions to cardboard backing, as described above, and to keep an eye on them, if possible.

Here's our 3 x 100,000 strategy!

We need 300,000 signatures, assuming that about 20% will be invalid.

Our strategy is for 100,000 people to each obtain just three signatures.

So please pass this link along to everyone you know in Washington State.

Call up talk shows and talk about it!

Print a few extra petitions for relatives, friends, neighbors, and colleagues who may each be willing to get a few signatures.

Give a petition to a local business owner if they are willing to make it available to customers. A small business owner is likely to be a staunch advocate for government fiscal responsibility.

This is not a partisan issue.

This means power for the people!!

This means fiscal responsibility for the government!!

This is for everyone no matter what their party affiliation is.
